Kia ora and welcome!
Never before has there been such a profound period of change within society, and also within education.
The opportunities in front of us are exciting and rewarding.
As educators we must embrace these changes and ensure that education meets the needs of today's students so they can thrive in the world in which they will live. These students need to be not only prepared for the future, but possess the skills and attributes to MAKE the future!
If we hope just to tell students what we know in order for them to be able to do what we do, we have seriously misunderstood the task required of education in the twenty-first century.
“We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist . . . using technologies that haven’t been invented . . . in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.”
We essentially need to prepare students for a future we can’t prepare them for.
These are some of today's challenges and the next steps for our schools.
This site contains my musings and leadership thoughts regarding Innovative Learning Environments, Collaborative Teaching & the Change Management (and Leadership) required.
This website was largely developed during a 2015 Principal sabbatical while I was still Principal at Te Kowhai School, Hamilton. The sabbatical focus was on developing collaborative teaching within an Innovative Learning Environment, and the Change Management/Leadership processes involved (Te Kowhai was an existing school built in 1890)
In 2018 I began as Foundation Principal of Te Ao Mārama School (a new Public Private Partnership School in Hamilton, which opened Jan 30th, 2019)
I will endeavour to update my thoughts/findings and useful ideas/resources when time allows.
There is a wide range of information on this site, and hopefully it will serve as a useful "repository" to assist others in their journeys. I would also like to recognise and pay thanks to the many colleagues and schools that have assisted with my/our own journey along the way.
